Mangrove & night kayaking on Havelock
PADDLE INTO
another world
Guided kayaking through the quiet mangrove creeks of Havelock Island, and out under the stars for bioluminescent night paddles. No experience needed, and you do not have to be a swimmer. Just a life jacket, a paddle, and a guide who knows these channels.
Kayaking in Andaman: mangrove creeks and bioluminescent nights on Havelock
We run guided kayaking on Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) in the Andamans. Every trip paddles through sheltered mangrove creeks rather than open sea, which is why they suit people who have never held a paddle before. After dark we run a separate bioluminescent night kayaking trip in the same creek system.
There are two trips, and that is deliberate. We would rather run a short list properly, in creeks we know well, than add every water sport on the island to a menu.
What kayaking in Andaman costs
Havelock Mangrove Kayaking, ₹3,500 per adult (₹1,200 per child). 2 hours, departures 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, maximum 10 paddlers, minimum age 8.
Bioluminescent Night Kayaking, ₹3,500 per person. 1.5 hours, departure 7:30 PM, maximum 8 paddlers, minimum age 10.
Prices include the kayak, paddle, life jacket, a dry bag for your phone, and a guide. There is no separate equipment charge and no hidden tax added at checkout. See the full kayaking price list for what each trip includes.
Where we paddle
All our kayaking runs on Havelock Island, known officially as Swaraj Dweep. More on where we paddle and how to get there. The creek system here is wide enough to paddle comfortably and sheltered enough that conditions stay workable on most days, and the bird life along the banks is consistently good. It is also where the bioluminescence appears, which is why the night trip runs here and nowhere else.
Havelock is reached by ferry, roughly 90 minutes to two hours depending on the boat. Book the ferry before you book the paddle, not the other way round, because ferries sell out in season and get cancelled in rough weather.
Is night kayaking in Andaman safe?
Yes, under the conditions we hold ourselves to. Night trips run in sheltered creek water, never open sea. Groups are capped at eight rather than ten, every kayak carries a light, life jackets are worn for the whole trip, and the minimum age is 10 rather than 8. You do not need to know how to swim. If the weather turns or visibility drops, we cancel and refund rather than run it. We go through this properly in is night kayaking in Andaman safe?
About the bioluminescence, read this before you book
Bioluminescence is a living organism responding to conditions, not a light we switch on. It shows best on new moon nights in dark, calm water, and it can be brilliant one night and absent the next with no warning. We do not guarantee it. Anyone promising you a guaranteed glow is either misinformed or selling you something they cannot deliver. Book the night paddle because a quiet mangrove creek after dark is worth doing on its own, and treat the glow as the night it works out. How bioluminescence works and when it appears covers the detail.
Do you need experience to kayak in the Andamans?
No. Both trips are graded beginner. Every trip starts with a briefing on land covering how to hold the paddle, how to steer, and what to do in the unlikely event of a capsize. Guides paddle with the group the whole way, not ahead of it. Most of our guests have never kayaked before.
Best time of year for kayaking in Andaman
Kayaking runs year round, but conditions differ. November to April is the most reliable stretch, with calm water, clear mornings, and the season most visitors travel in. May to September brings the southwest monsoon: creeks stay paddleable more often than people expect, but trips get cancelled at short notice when the wind picks up. Bioluminescence tends to be reported more often in the warmer, wetter months, though that is a tendency and not a schedule.
Our season by season guide goes month by month. Within a day, morning departures are calmest. Tides matter more than the clock in the creeks, so the exact departure we confirm may shift by a few minutes either side.
Why this is different
This is not a water sports package with kayaking bolted on. It is a slow, guided paddle through one of the Andamans’ most overlooked ecosystems: two trips, run properly, in creeks we know well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need prior kayaking experience to join a tour?
No prior experience is required. Every trip starts with a safety briefing and a short paddling lesson on land, and our sit-on-top kayaks are stable and easy to control. Complete beginners, families and confident paddlers all join the same sheltered mangrove routes, with a guide paddling alongside the group.
How long does a tour take, and what is included?
The mangrove trip is 2 hours on the water and the night paddle is 1.5 hours, plus a short safety briefing on land before you launch. Every booking includes the kayak, paddle, a fitted life jacket, your guide, a dry bag for your phone and keys, and drinking water, with no rental fees or equipment charges on top.
Where do tours depart from, and is hotel pickup available?
All trips depart from Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep). The exact meeting point is confirmed with your booking. We do not run hotel pickup, so plan a taxi or a rented scooter to the start. Arrive 15 minutes before a daytime departure and 20 minutes before the night paddle, because the safety briefing happens on land before anyone gets in a kayak.
Can I book for a group or a private trip?
Yes, choose the number of guests when you book. Each departure has limited seats, up to 10 paddlers by day and 8 at night. For a larger group or a private departure, message us on WhatsApp before booking and we will tell you what is possible on your dates.
Is night kayaking safe in Andaman?
Yes, under the conditions we run it. Night trips stay in sheltered mangrove creeks and never go into open sea, groups are capped at 8 instead of 10, every kayak carries a light, life jackets are worn throughout, and the minimum age is 10. You do not need to be able to swim. If weather or visibility deteriorates we cancel and refund in full rather than run the trip.
What is the best time of year for mangrove kayaking in the Andamans?
The ideal window is November through April, when seas are calm and skies are mostly clear. Early morning and late afternoon slots are coolest and offer the best wildlife sightings. Monsoon season (June to September) tours run weather-permitting and may be rescheduled for safety.
Is kayaking through the mangroves safe for children and non-swimmers?
Yes. Everyone wears a fitted life jacket from launch to landing, so you do not need to be able to swim, and the trips stay in sheltered creeks rather than open sea. The minimum age is 8 on the daytime mangrove trip and 10 on the night paddle, and children paddle with a parent or guardian in their group.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
If we cancel because of weather or safety, you get a full refund or a free reschedule. If you need to cancel, how much is refunded depends on how far ahead you tell us; the exact terms are on our Cancellation Policy page. You can reschedule up to 24 hours before departure, subject to availability.
What wildlife might I see while kayaking through the mangroves?
Expect kingfishers, herons, mudskippers and fiddler crabs along the mangrove roots, with sea eagles sometimes overhead. On the night paddle, when conditions are right, bioluminescent plankton light up the water around your paddle. Wildlife and bioluminescence are never guaranteed, but the creeks are worth paddling either way.
How much does kayaking in Andaman cost?
From ₹3,500. Mangrove kayaking on Havelock is ₹3,500 per adult for 2 hours, and bioluminescent night kayaking is ₹3,500 per person for 1.5 hours. Kayak, life jacket, dry bag and guide are included in every price.
